Clonorchis is a living organism that can harm people. This condition can infect a person’s healthy living. Once this disease occurs it may affect the bile duct and gall bladder. It can be found across parts of Asia. It is also known as a “Chinese or oriental liver fluke”. People who eat uncooked, smoked, salted food from fresh water may be infected to this disease. They will also have larvae inside their stomach.Signs and Symptoms of Clonorchis

The signs/symptoms will give you clue to see if you have this kind of infection:

Fever

Chills

Epigastric Pain

Tender Hepatomegaly

Diarrhea

Mild jaundice

The infection can last up to 30 years of lifespan of the parasite. A person can have a multiple long-standing untreated parasites infections. The cause of this infection of gallbladder and ducts has been a common to this disease.

Risk Factor             

This disease can spread the infections mostly in people living in areas where parasites are present. Clonorchis is found in some countries including:

  • Korea
  • China
  • Taiwan
  • Northern Vietnam
  • Japan
  • Asian Russia

This kind of infection is found in people who had ingested imported freshwater fishes. Undercooked or picked containing parasitic cysts.

Each adult parasitic worm that lives inside the body of people can produce 4000 eggs daily. It is for only at least 6 months that is produced by a cross-fertilization process.

Diagnosis

Examining of stool in Microscope – this process is to find eggs in the stool. It may also be duodenal contents. The eggs are difficult to identify from others like Opusthrichis. This kind of diagnosis is done by identifying adult flakes. It is made in a surgical specimen. It can also be done by doing percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography.

Preventive Measure

This process will help you prevent of having the disease. These are the following:

Cooking – cook the fish at a temperature of 145 degrees F.

Fish Freezing – freeze for about 4 degrees F or at least below 20 degrees F for 7 days.  31 degree F (-35 degree C) until solid. Store for at least 31 degrees F. (-35 degree C) for at least 15 hours.

You may also freeze for 31 degrees F (-35 degree C) until solid. Store for at least -4 degrees F (-20 degree C) for 24 hours.

Treatment

To prevent having this kind of infection here is the treatment:

  • Praziquantel or albendazole – are the drugs of choice to treat Clonorchis infection.
  • Albendazole – is an anti-worm medication. It prevents the larvae (worms) to multiply inside your body.
