General Information
Lotensin Tablets is used to treat hypertension or high blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure lessens the risk of nonfatal and fatal cardiovascular events. It is primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions. These benefits have been seen in controlled trials of antihypertensive drugs from a wide variety of pharmacologic classes. Here includes the class to which this drug principally belongs.
How do Lotensin (Benazepril Hydrochloride) Tablets work?
Lotensin Tablet is an ACE or angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor. It is an enzyme in the body that causes the formation of angiotensin II. Angiotensin II causes contraction of the muscles surrounding arteries and constriction of arteries in the body. Thereby it elevates blood pressure. ACE inhibitors such as benazepril lower blood pressure by inhibiting the formation of angiotensin II. As a result, it relaxes the arteries. Relaxing the arteries not only lowers blood pressure. It also improves the pumping efficiency of a failing heart and thereby benefits patients with heart failure.
