If you are in an extended state of quarantine now, there are various steps that you can take to guard your mental health. It is in addition to your physical health. It is very common and normal to be afraid and be stressed during an outbreak. However, taking time to step away from the noise and focus on yourself helps ease those feelings.
1. Make Time To Unwind
Make time to make yourself happy. Spend time writing, reading, decluttering, knitting, meditating, or doing yoga. Do whatever you enjoy. If you love cooking, make plans for meals for the next few days. Cook healthy dishes for yourself and others in the house. It could also be a challenge for your creativity and helps you fight boredom. However, if you are sick just leave the cooking with somebody else. Doing something using your hands could be a great release during an outbreak. Keep in mind to always practice good handwashing.
2. Exercise For Good Health
Take time to move around a little if you’re still stuck in your house. There are lots of exercise videos available online for free and you can do it even just inside your house. Ask your doctor first if you have any questions about your capability to perform physical activity. Exercise of any kind boosts and supports the immune system. It is also a great tool for managing stress and anxiety. It also helps you pass time throughout the day.
3. Be Mindful
Mindfulness can be defined as awareness at this time. Taking just 5 minutes of meditation a day can help you reset your perspective and mind. Breathing exercise and meditation helps clear your mind and slow your heart rate down. If you are doing this regularly, it could suffer the effects of stress that helps support your immune system. If it doesn’t work for you, you can try reading a book, taking a bath, and being off from social media. It also helps clear your mind and relax.
4. Take Breaks
Taking breaks from social media and news is a great help to distance yourself from what is going on. If you are spending time doing another activity, you are excluding yourself from social media and news which is difficult to avoid. When you are practicing self-care, consider not posting it to any of your social media accounts. Doing so, it might feel empowering.
5. Always Remind To Yourself Why
Remind yourself why you are in quarantine. It is to keep not only ourselves safe but some other people who are at risk or who are vulnerable to the infection. Express gratitude to yourself for doing such a selfless act and keep your mind busy as much as possible.
